Complete set of prints designed by Nicolaes Berchem and published by Clement de Jonghe between 1648 and 1652.The set is titled: 'ANIMALIA / ad vivum delineate et aqua forti aeri / impressa / Studio et arte / NICOLAS BERCHEMI. / Clemendt de Jonge excud. Amst'.The set has been passed on through at least three collections without being dismembered: collection A. Artaria (1807-1893) [L. 33], Richard Jung (1911-1986) [L. 3791]; on the verso of each plate also another mark which remains at the moment unidenified.The title plate shows a shepherd sitting on the ground accompanied by a dog, whereas the others various animals: goats, rams, sheeps, mouflons and dogs. Some of the plates are signed: nr. 2 'Berrighem f.', nr. 4 'Berrighem f.', nr. 7 'Berrighem'; all plates are numbered except the title print. Etching on laid paper, some with watermark of fool's cap, trimmed to plate mark, total: 100 x 110 mm ca.; state IV/7; Hollstein / Bartsch 49-56.
